Cement Australia, through its Railton manufacturing plant, is a major player in the Tasmanian and Australian construction industry. Its two global parent companies, LafargeHolcim and HeidelbergCement, along with subsidiary Hanson, are major players in the cement industry, operating in more than 70 countries and are amongst the largest manufacturers of cement products in the world. This allows the Tasmanian plant and its staff the advantage of being able to access the latest products and processes and utilise world-leading research and technology in the cement and concrete industries. The company wishes to support students from the north-west of Tasmania studying at the University of Tasmania in any area relevant to the industry. Available to a North West Tasmanian student commencing first year in an undergraduate degree course which is in some way relevant to the cement industry. Eg business, chemistry, engineering, environmental science, geology, management, surveying, etc. There may be opportunities for selected students to be offered a paid work placement with Cement Australia over the summer vacation. Selection will be based on financial need.

To retain this award, recipients are required to achieve a minimum Pass result in all units studied each semester.
