Tasmanian Asylum Seeker Scholarship
Up to three scholarships are provided by the University of Tasmania annually to support Tasmanian Asylum seekers to undertake undergraduate tertiary studies.
Available to a person who is residing in Tasmania at the time of application and who is commencing undergraduate study in Semester 1, 2019 and who is:
1. on a Temporary Protection Visa (TPV), or
2. applying for a Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (SHEV), or
3. on an equivalent bridging visa, or
4. seeking asylum in Tasmania.
Applicants will be assessed on demonstrated involvement in their local community, commitment to education and financial need.
To retain this award, recipients are required to achieve a minimum Pass result in all units studied each semester and remain on one of the above listed visas (noting that when a refugee or humanitarian visa is granted, the student is eligible for FEE-HELP).
The scholarship will consist of a partial international student fee waiver up to the value of $26,500 per annum (depending on course preference) and a cash bursary valued at $1,000 in the first year of the degree. Please note - recipients of the scholarship will be required to contribute $5,000 of their international fees ($2,500 each semester).
