South32’s Tasmanian Electro Metallurgical Company (TEMCO) is a ferroalloy smelter located 50 kilometres north of Launceston at Bell Bay on the coast of Tasmania, Australia. South32 is a globally diversified metals and mining company. It produces bauxite, alumina, aluminium energy and metallurgical coal, manganese, nickel, silver, lead and zinc in Australia, Southern Africa and South America. TEMCO produces high-carbon ferromanganese, silicomanganese and sinter and remains the only manganese ferroalloy plant in Australia. The TEMCO Community Foundation provided a significant gift to support several scholarships at the University of Tasmania.

Available to students commencing any Associate Degree or Diploma with the University College in Semester 1, 2023 who reside in the Tamar Valley region of Tasmania. These bursaries can be applied for by students in Year 12, mature age students who require retraining due to redundancy, or individuals re-entering the workforce due to an absence relating to personal circumstances or disability. The Tamar Valley region includes the areas within the George Town Council, West Tamar Council and City of Launceston boundaries and all suburbs within the greater Launceston area. Selection will be based on demonstration of financial need.

To retain this award, recipients are required to achieve a minimum Pass result in all units studied each semester.
