Backhouse Walker Honours Scholarship in History

This scholarship commemorates James Backhouse and George Washington Walker, Quaker missionaries to Van Diemen’s Land, and James Backhouse Walker, Tasmanian lawyer, scientist and historian, and vice-chancellor of the University of Tasmania.

 

Eligibility

Available to a student commencing an honours project in History in Semester 1, 2020. Preference will be given to a student working on the history of the Quakers or the life and times of James Backhouse Walker, and making use of the resources of the University of Tasmania Library’s Special Collections. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of the applicant's academic record in History and the quality of application. The offer will be conditional upon establishing a viable project.

On-going Eligibility

To retain this award, recipients are required to achieve a minimum Pass result in all units studied each semester.
