Dame Marjorie Parker Memorial Award
Soroptimist International of Launceston have provided funding for this award in memory of Dame Marjorie Parker, a founding member who had a 40-year association with the club and was a prominent citizen of Launceston. Soroptimist International is a worldwide service organisation for women in management and the professions, working through service projects to advance human rights and the status of women. There are more than 3000 Soroptimist clubs in 126 countries across the globe. In Tasmania there are clubs in Burnie, Circular Head, Devonport, George Town, Hobart and Launceston. Available to a female student enrolling in an undergraduate course in Semester 1 2020, who has completed at least one year of that course, achieving a course GPA of 5.5 or higher. Females from all disciplines are invited to apply, including those studying in non-traditional areas (eg. Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). The successful applicant will be an Australian citizen who lives and studies in Tasmania, is actively involved in community/volunteer work and who demonstrates leadership or leadership potential in areas that will improve the lives of women/girls, in accordance with the mission of Soroptimist International. The successful applicant will be confident speaking in public. It is a condition of accepting this award that the successful applicant attend and speak at a meeting of Soroptimist International (Launceston Branch) in the same year that the award is offered.
To retain this award, recipients are required to achieve a minimum CREDIT result in all units studied each semester.
